Breaking In The NOS Yaesu FT-2800M Radio

After running the little handheld for a while, and having not yet lost interest in playing radio, I felt it was time to step it up a notch. Several years back I picked up a Yaesu FT-2800M on clearance at HRO. At the time I intended to install in the car or maybe set up a go-kit, but instead it sat on the shelf, still new in the box. Well now it’s unboxed! What a sweet radio; easy to program, great transmit and receive, 200 memory channels to fill. My antenna limits me to local repeaters in Harford County, east Baltimore and over the bay to Kent County. Hopefully I can improve that situation soon …

Powering this thing was a bit of a challenge since my old Astron power supply seems to no longer work. I keep a 12V 19AH SLA battery with a 4 amp charger for general backup purposes, so I hooked up the radio. So far, so good!
